‘He Doesn’t Know What An Own Goal Is’- Hummels Reveals Three-Year Old Son Celebrated France Win Over Germany

Mats Hummels has revealed his three-year-old son celebrated his own goal in Germany’s EURO 2020 opening defeat to France thinking he had given his country the lead.

Hummels lashed into his own net in the 20th minute and that proved to be the only goal of the game as world champions France claimed all three points.

Hummels was later informed that his son went into a jubilant mood the moment the ball hit the back of the net as he thought his dad had scored at the right end of the pitch.

Speaking in an interview with Bild, Hummels said: 'Thankfully, he doesn't know yet what an own goal is.

'He thinks the ball in the net is always right. I was told that he was celebrating. I'll probably have to teach him that.'

Hummels recently earned a recall to the German national team after he was ostracized by manager Joachim Low back in 2019.

The Borussia Dortmund defender has won 73 caps for his country to date and was part of the side that won the FIFA World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

Germany are back in EURO 2020 action on Saturday when they take on Portugal before a final group stage game against Hungary.
