Seaman Names Three Signings Arsenal Need To Improve

Legendary Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has described the type of players Arsenal need in order to return to the top.

Seaman believes signing ‘a good defender, midfielder and a consistent attacking forward’ would help Arsenal to improve.

Having drafted Mikel Arteta in to replace Unai Emery, who could not make Arsenal better than the latter days of Arsene Wenger, the club's board and fans thought the Spanish coach was going to bring success back to the Emirates Stadium but that has not been the case yet.

The Gunners endured another underwhelming season in the 2020/2021 campaign where they finished eighth on the Premier League table and failed to qualify for Europe for the first time in 25 years.

“When you look at last season, finishing eighth, it’s very disappointing,” Seaman told the Daily Mail. “It’s something that needs to be changed.

“I feel a little bit sorry for Arteta because he’s not got his own team yet, or his own squad. He’s inherited players from previous managers. But he’s got to coach those around him to get the best out of them.

“We saw with winning the FA Cup and then the Community Shield, I would call those bonuses because that season wasn’t very good either.”

The two-time Premier League winner added: “It’s the consistency that’s the problem.

“All of a sudden we beat Liverpool and Chelsea, then we lost to lower teams. That’s his biggest problem.

“Do we need players? Yes, we do. I still feel that the spine of the team isn’t strong enough. They need a good defender and midfield player. We need a more consistent attacking player.”
