Alexander-Arnold Credits Klopp For Rapid Rise

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has paid a glowing tribute to Jurgen Klopp for overseeing his development over the last two years.

Alexander-Arnold has come on leaps and bounds since breaking into the Liverpool first team at the start of the 2017/2018 season and he became the youngest player ever to start in back-to-back UEFA Champions League finals when he took to the field from the start against Tottenham Hotspurs at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium on June 1.

Alexander-Arnold has now played 97 times for his boyhood club and has won the Champions League and UEFA Super cup.

The 21-year-old has established himself as one of the best left backs in the Premier League and Europe, and has already played in one FIFA World Cup after breaking into Gareth Southgate’s England plans last year.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday ahead of England’s EURO 2020 qualifying games against Czech Republic and Bulgaria, the youngster said: “Without him, who knows what would have happened?

“He’s the one who’s given me the most opportunities, and more opportunities than I could even ask for.

“I think he’s obviously put a lot of trust and faith in me personally, and I’ve tried to repay him every time he’s done that.

“A massive thanks to him, and hopefully there will be four more years of success!”

Klopp recently celebrated four years in charge of Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold has praised the former Borussia Dortmund boss for giving youth a chance at the club.

"Within his first few weeks he was down at the academy watching the young lads, and that almost gave us a bit more faith and gave a statement to the club that he is going to use young players and give us those chances."

"He's shown over the four-year period that he has given those young players their chances and given them opportunities and obviously I'm one of the youngsters that have been given them.
