Kante says he is not thinking of winning the coveted individual trophy as he is still savouring his side’s Champions League glory.
Many fans and pundits have tipped Kante to win the golden ball following his exploits for Chelsea in Europe.
The 30-year-old was one of Thomas Tuchel’s fulcrums who rose from being underdogs to hoist the Champions League title.
Kante put up a lot of stellar performances especially in the knockout stages for the West Londoners.
He won four-man-of-the-match awards in the knockout stages more than any other player and three of them were from the semi-final and final stages.
In an interview with RMC Sport, Kante was asked if he is expecting to win the Ballon d’Or, the former Leicester City man said:
“No, for the moment we are savoring the Champions League.
“The Euros are soon, I will join the France team and I hope to win that as well.”
The 2018 World Cup winner also opened up on winning the Champions League trophy with Chelsea for the first time in his career.
“It’s amazing,” said Kante.
“It’s the result of a lot of effort, after a lot of difficulties during the season.
“The Man of the Match award is secondary. The main thing is the work of the whole group. It is pride and joy. We fought to qualify for the final. Today, we have suffered, we have the reward.”
