Tuchel says Chelsea could have lost against their London rivals due to the mentality of Fulham and their upcoming crucial game against Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final.
The Blues put up a convincing and professional performance against the Cottagers at Stamford Bridge to secure the maximum points thanks to Kai Havertz’s brace.
The Germany international scored in each half as Tuchel’s men strengthened their hopes of securing a top four finish.
"You can see Fulham are near the bottom and you can get confused and it can cause you problems. It was the target to stay absolutely focused on this game. I didn't see many teams over perform against Fulham, they give you a hard time and are difficult to play against. The team gets huge credit because you can't win much in these games but you can lose a lot,” Tuchel told reporters after the game.
"Timo [Werner] was involved in many chances, Mason [Mount] was outstanding and always involved. Kai [Havertz] played double striker with Timo and the two had a good connection and were always dangerous. There is still a lot to improve but another good performance.
“We need him [Kai] spot on to achieve our goals. There are many reasons to maybe talk about why it is a difficult situation [for Havertz in his first season in England] but in the end you are responsible for yourself and he is. He must adapt as quick as possible. That is what he is doing and that is what we demand of him."
