Targett joined Dean Smith’s side from Southampton in the summer of 2019 and the Englishman has since made the left back position his own.
Targett’s previous contract still had two years to run but Villa have moved swiftly to secure his services for a longer term.
The 25-year-old has started all 32 Premier League games this season for a Villa side who have kept 14 clean sheets in the division.
Targett has expressed delight at signing an extension and is already eyeing a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s European Championships.
“Just the way the club is progressing, there is a lot of changes around the training ground and it is a really exciting time to be part of this project,” Targett told Aston Villa’s website.
“To commit my future for another two years is amazing and I can’t wait to carry on my journey here.
“I am very settled here, got a lovely house up here and me and my partner are very happy here. To sign an extension and extend my stay here is really nice.”
“I want to get into the England squad – that was my personal target this year.”
“I still believe I can do that. I just need to keep performing.
“I don’t think I am too far off.
“I just need to keep performing consistently and help the team as much as I can.”
