European football took a hit at the end of last week when 12 big teams in Europe decided to form a new competition dubbed the ‘European Super League’ in an attempt to end UEFA’s monopoly.
Fiorentina’s Serie A rivals, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus were part of the founding members of the European Super League.
The plans to go forward with the preparation of a proposed 20-team competition took a hit when fans and other football personalities castigated the initiative which led to many teams withdrawing.
Ribery, who tasted the highs and lows of the Champions League during his time at Bayern Munich, has taken to his social media account to slam the plan to form another competition to rival the existing one
“The bitter tears after that final in Munich. That special night and unbelievable emotions in London one year later. That corner at Old Trafford and that wonderful goal from Arjen," wrote the former France international on Twitter.
“All those exciting nights at the Allianz Arena. That special feeling of winning something great.
“The Champions League game me everything. This is what kids’ dreams are made of. I was one of them back in Boulogne-sur-Mer. Never let something destroy the football we love.
“We cannot forget where we come from and who we play for.”
