Semi-Finals Is A Big Achievement' - Claims Tuchel After Seeing Off Porto

Chelsea stuck to their guns to reach the last four of the UEFA Champions League at the expense of FC Porto despite a late scare at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium on Tuesday, and head coach Thomas Tuchel has insisted that getting to the semi-final is a great feat for the Blues.

After taking a 2-0 lead into the second leg of the competition, Chelsea needed a favourable result to book a date with either Real Madrid or Liverpool in the semi-final.

In a game that lacked clear cut opportunities and invention, Tuchel’s men kept Sérgio Conceição’s side at bay for the vast majority of the game until substitute Mehdi Taremi’s moment of brilliance put Porto ahead during the dying embers.

The Iran international’s goal was too late to inspire a comeback as Chelsea secured their place in the semi-final for the first time since 2014.

“You can always feel when the pressure is on but we are used to it. We have played Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton and Atletico Madrid in two weeks. All of these matches are every three days,” Tuchel told BT Sport after the game.

"We did not talk about the result in the first game. We talked about what we needed to do if you feel nervous and that is to use your body, work hard and make yourself sweat.

"This is what we did. We tried to give them confidence and show them what they should do as a team.

“It is nice for them I think as they know they can rely on each other which is the most important thing. We will become a strong side. The semi-finals is a big achievement.

Liverpool need to put up another miraculous performance at Anfield in order to reach the last four, and being one of Chelsea’s potential opponents in the semi-final.

The German coach said: "In general I like not to play against teams from your same league in the Champions League as it gives more of a feeling of a European competition but that is the only thing. The game is far from over but I will watch it for sure.

"It is a pleasure to watch it as a semi-finalist which is a great achievement. We will watch these games and everything is possible. Liverpool are very strong at home so we take what we get. It is a good situation for us."
