West Bromwich Albion Coach Praises Tuchel’s Defensive Diligence

West Bromwich Albion head coach Sam Allardyce has heaped praise on Thomas Tuchel due to his impressive start to life at Stamford Bridge.

Allardyce has insisted that the German coach has done the right thing by making Chelsea hard to beat.

The Blues have conceded only two goals in 14 games in all competitions since the former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund coach took over and are yet to taste defeat.

Chelsea are now in a very good position to finish in the top four and have booked a date with Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Tuchel’s men are also in the Champions League quarter-final after seeing off Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16 stage.

Allardyce believes that Chelsea’s recent form is down to Tuchel’s defensive diligence and emphasized the German’s playing style to his own mentality of not conceding.

"The basis for success, contrary to what everyone says. what is necessary to win anything is to have the best clean sheet record,” the English coach said ahead of West Bromwich Albion’s trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday.

On Tuchel he said: "He has done the right thing, start with clean sheets and build from there. That is not to say Chelsea are not entertaining. They are."

There has been a lot of talks about Conor Gallagher's Chelsea future in recent weeks. Reports have suggested that the Englishman will be leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the summer.

Other reports said Gallagher will be in Tuchel’s senior group next season due to his bright performances at the Hawthorns

"If we stay in the Premier League, I would hope he would be here, not Chelsea," Allardyce added.

"He would be better off being with us. When you lose more than you win, it makes you tougher and more determined and what has happened this season will only stand him in good stead.

"He has been a good asset for us. The consistency of his performance has impressed me."
