Haaland is currently considered as one of the best players in Europe due to his goal scoring exploits in Bundesliga and Champions League.
Big European clubs are hovering around Dortmund trying to secure the services of the Norway international before the beginning of next season. Solskjaer’s Manchester United happens to be one of the clubs.
The Red Devils tried signing the 20-year-old from Red Bull Salzburg before he moved to Dortmund in January 2020.
Solskjaer worked with Haaland during their days in Molde FK before the former became Manchester United’s manager in December 2018.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Solskjaer was asked if he knew Haaland was destined for greatness and the Norwegian coach said: “Yeah. You can see the personality.”
“He came as a 16-year-old, of course, you never know with injuries. He struggled really badly with bad knees when he came. But I could see someone with a personality.”
“I remember him brushing off and putting our centre-back and centre midfielders. Two big, massive lads, he put them on the floor and asked them to get up. Erling’s a winner.”
“He’s got a great personality, of course. Haaland’s proving to everyone how good a player he is.”
“We played against Zenit in the Europa League play-off. And the referee came to me after and said, ‘he’ll play in the Champions League soon’. We did know.”
“He’s a top personality. I played with Alf [Haaland’s father], he’s a bit old school in that respect. He’s a winner.”
