Jonny Evans Still Good Enough For Man Utd, Solskjaer Insists

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Leicester City defender Jonny Evans is still good enough to play for the Red Devils.

It has been almost six years since Evans left Old Trafford initially for West Bromwich Albion before joining the Foxes in the summer of 2018.

The Northern Ireland international came through the youth ranks of Manchester United and won three Premier League titles at the club before his departure.

Evans has been a mainstay in a Leicester City defence challenging for an European spot this season, making 23 appearances in the top flight.

Solskjaer has been impressed with Evans’ outings for Brendan Rodgers’ men and is adamant the 33-year-old could still cut it in the red half of Manchester.

“You know, Jonny Evans should have been a Manchester United player now, of course," Solskjaer said ahead of his side's FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester on Sunday.

"But sometimes football takes you other places when changes in management happen.

“I’m sure that Jonny Evans has feelings for Manchester United and we have feelings for him too.

“So it is a pleasure to see him playing as well as he does and we just have to move on.

"But of course, local lads – I call them local lads, you know what I mean – we want to build our next youth team on players like Jonny Evans, if you like.

“With Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay and Dean Henderson and all of the lads, added on with top quality players of course.”
