Ferdinand believes Havertz is talented and has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League.
Chelsea secured the services of Havertz from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen for a fee around £72million before the beginning of this season.
The 21-year-old’s move to the Stamford Bridge was questioned by the fans and media as many suggested he was not worth that amount due to a series of poor performances from him.
Havertz’s difficult start to life in West London was compounded by injuries and testing positive for Coronavirus.
The German seemed to have put his predicament behind and has started showing his worth in recent weeks.
He was instrumental at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday when Chelsea beat Atletico Madrid 2-0 to reach the quarter-final stage of the Champions League.
Ferdinand, who was impressed by Havertz’s display against the Spaniards said: “Not all players come here and hit the ground running. Buy you can see the quality is there.”
“We saw when he was at Bayer Leverkusen in previous years that he is a hugely talented footballer and it is going to take him time.
“But in the end, he will get there because he is somebody who has a good feel for the game.”
The Englishman added: “He reminds me a little of [Dimitar] Berbatov in how cool, calm and collected he is,” he continued.
“He is very silky, he plays on the edge of the game a little bit at times, and drifts about.
“Once he gets that part of his game, I think everything will fall into place.”
