Gundogan has been Manchester City’s main man this season and was at his brilliant best when Guardiola’s side beat Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 on Tuesday night to secure a place in the Champions League quarter-final.
"He’s always had a sense of [where the] goal [is], playing for [Borussia] Dortmund," Guardiola singled out Gundogan for praise after the game.
"He’s an incredibly nice guy. He’s one of the… I will never forget the time we spent together. As a player he is one of the most intelligent, wisest players I have ever trained, I have ever seen.
"This season, every time he has arrived near the goal, he has scored the goal, he has this quality but not just that. I'm so delighted with the performance from Ilkay again and from all of the team."
Gundogan has been one of the most important players for Manchester City since he joined the English side in 2016, but he was widely known for his skills and calmness on the ball.
But the 30-year-old has added goals to his repertoire, having netted 15 in all competitions for the Manchester-based club in the ongoing season.
He is strongly considered as a deserved contender for the PFA Player of the Year Award as Manchester City bid for trophies this season.
