The Argentina international has decided to stay in Paris for another year with the option to extend it to 2023.
Di Maria has been with the Parisians since the beginning of the 2015/2016 season after a forgettable short stint in the Premier League with Manchester United.
The 33-year-old’s contract was due to end this summer but he is proving vital to Mauricio Pochettino’s men, having scored five goals and provided 12 assists for PSG in 27 appearances in all competitions.
PSG took to their official website to make an announcement of Di Maria’s extension: “Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce that Angel Di Maria has signed a one-year contract extension, with an option of a second year.
“Since August 2015, the 33-year-old has made 248 appearances for the Rouge Bleu, scoring 87 goals and making 99 assists while playing a key role in the club’s success over recent seasons.
“The left-footed Argentine has notched up 16 trophies so far for the Parisian club: four Ligue 1 titles (2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020), four Coupes de la Ligue (2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020), four Coupes de France (2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020), and four Trophées des Champions (2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020).
“The midfielder has the second-most assists in the history of Paris Saint-Germain, setting up 99 goals for his teammates just behind Safet Susic’s total of 103.
““Fideo” is also the eighth-highest scorer (87 goals) in the history of the Rouge Bleu. The Rosario-born player has also picked up 104 caps and scored 20 goals for “La Albiceleste”, the Argentina national team.”
Di Maria has become a vital part of PSG since his debut against Monaco in 2015 and has since scored 87 goals and provided 99 assists in 248 appearances.
The French Ligue 1 champions will also be willing to decide the futures of France superstar Kylian Mbappe and Neymar by extending their deals in the coming days.
