The Costa Rica international put up a dazzling man-of-the-match performance to help the Parisians record a 5-2 aggregate victory.
Navas made nine saves against the Catalonia giants, but the crucial one came on the cusp of halftime when referee Anthony Taylor awarded a penalty after a foul on Antoine Griezmann inside the area.
Messi stepped up to take the penalty but his effort was saved by the former Real Madrid goalkeeper as the game ended 1-1.
Speaking to the media after the game, Navas dedicated his penalty save to his team-mate Rico, who is said to be dealing with personal issues.
“It's always difficult, especially against Messi who shoots very well," the 34-year-old told RMC Sport.
"It gives a lot of joy to everyone. This penalty is for Sergio Rico who is going through difficult times with his family, it is for him."
“It was a very great match from Barcelona, they pushed to the maximum. We were very motivated to continue in this competition, with this spirit.
