Werner Feeling Guilty Over Lampard’s Dismissal As Chelsea Manager

Timo Werner has admitted he feels guilty over the dismissal of Frank Lampard as Chelsea manager last month.

Lampard was sacked by the Chelsea hierarchy on January 25 after a poor run of form that saw the Blues drop out of the title race and top four altogether.

Werner was signed by Lampard from RB Leipzig last summer as part of an outlay on new arrivals that totaled over £200m.

However, the Germany international could not deliver the goods under Lampard and was guilty of missing clear cut chances when the former Derby County manager desperately needed results to improve.

Thomas Tuchel has since been brought in to steady the ship at Stamford Bridge and Werner has found some form with one goal and three assists in six appearances under his compatriot.

Werner is however feeling some guilt that his lack of goals could have contributed to his former manager losing his job.

"When you come here to play as a striker and be the man to score the goals, of course, I felt a little bit guilty that I missed so many chances," the German striker told Sky Sports.

"For the club, for the old manager but also for me because I want to score all the time and as much as I possibly can.

"Of course, if I'd scored four or five more goals maybe the old manager would still be here because we'd maybe have won two or three games more but you can't look too much into the past because there are too many games ahead of us."

Werner will look to add to his five Premier League goals so far when Chelsea host Manchester United on Sunday.
