The Rossoneri are yearning to secure their first Scudetto since the 2010/2011 season and Sacchi has weighed in on his former side’s chances.
AC Milan had been at the summit since the beginning of the season but Inter Milan leapfrogged their local rivals to go top of the Serie A table after Stefano Pioli’s side’s defeat against Spezia last weekend.
Sacchi is considered as one of the best managers of all time, having led AC Milan to glory in the late 80s and early 90s.
Despite the recent blip of the Milanese club, Sacchi explained why he thinks AC Milan could hoist the league title.
“In Serie A, there are three contenders who aim to win the title,’ the 74-year-old Italian said via the Daily Mail.
“Inter Milan have Lukaku, Juventus have Ronaldo and Milan have Ibrahimovic. It is impossible for them to do well if they are not performing up to standard.
“Milan are different because (Stefano) Pioli’s team are a group. They won even when Ibrahimovic wasn’t there.
“It’s essential. Because the coach is only one man. If the team doesn’t help him, he can’t manage alone.
“If the coach wants to make things happen, he cannot expect too much, but he expects functional players who want to play the game.
AC Milan will bid to claim top spot in Serie A over the weekend when they face city foes Inter Milan in the top-of-the-table-clash.
