The Gunners swept off a very good Leeds side in an entertaining game at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta’s men were leading 3-0 at halftime thanks to Hector Bellerin and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s double.
The Gabon international competed his hat-trick two minutes after the interval to extend the hosts’ advantage.
Leeds United struck twice on 58 and 69 minutes thanks to goals from Pascal Struijk and substitute Helder Costa to set up a nerve-shredding and nail-biting end to the game but Arsenal were able to see the game through to secure an emphatic victory.
“I'm very pleased with the result and very, very happy with the performance against a fantastic team that makes life so difficult for you. We handled the situations well,” Arteta said after the game.
"At half time I told them there's a team that will never give up and throw everything at you. They made it hard. You have 45 minutes - every action you have to be on full gas. You have 15 minutes' break then it's another 45 minutes."
"I am really happy because I watch them so much and I know how difficult they are. They are a fantastic team and they showed that over the course of the game, they showed spirit at 4-0 down, throw everything at you and make life very difficult.
"I try to do the best I can, they are a fantastic team, they put you under a lot of trouble and everyone knows their roles.
“They are very man orientated and we did really good for big period. Credit to them, to maintain the level of belief at 4-0 is remarkable.
