Zidane Slams Spanish Media Over His Future Rumours

Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has hit out at the Spanish media following constant reportage on his future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Zidane has come under intense pressure in recent weeks following the yo-yoing form of Los Blancos.

Real Madrid’s bid to defend the La Liga title is hanging by a thread as they currently sit third, ten points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, who have a game in hand.

Zidane’s men were also shockingly knocked out of the Supercopa de España semi-final by eventual winners Athletic Bilbao last month.

A manager who guided Real Madrid to hoist three consecutive Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018, and snatched the La Liga title last season from the noses of their local rivals Barcelona does not deserve such backlash from the media but that is not the case for Zidane.

“I don’t know what will happen, the important thing is that we concentrate we deserve to finish with this squad, with the players who are here,” Zidane said ahead of Real Madrid’s visit to Huesca on Saturday.

“There is talk that the coach is going to change, what will happen will happen. I’m lucky to be here, I won’t let it go.

“Last year we won the League, we have the right to fight for it. Next year things have to change, it’s true. The team won the league last year, not 10 years ago.

“They have the right to fight for it, to compete. You say many things, but say it to my face, that you want me out.

“In the end you [media] are doing your job, but it is true that one day I’m out, the next a little bit in. If we draw or lose I am out.

“It is the reality of what you are doing. Inside we will try to do our job, you have to be a little respectful. What makes me laugh is what you ask me, I don’t know.

“I have the impression that I am the only one who thinks that every day I am leaving. I’m not happy that they ask me every time we play a bad game, I don’t deserve this treatment from the press.”
