Manchester United were top of the Premier League table earlier this month despite a slow start to the season, but have surrendered their command to local rivals Manchester City after failing to win their last two games.
Despite playing a game less, the Citizens currently sit three points above Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men after their win against Sheffield United on Saturday, a game which was played before Manchester United’s match at the Emirates Stadium.
United passed up numerous chances including a late Edinson Cavani’s golden opportunity to secure three points for the visitors and Keane has posited his former side lacked the belief to fight for their first title since the 2012/2013 season.
"I'm scratching my head with United. The worry for me watching them today, they almost lacked the belief they could go and win the game," Keane told Sky Sports.
"It's Man Utd, you're looking at Arsenal who are missing a few players, the game was there for the taking.
"Overall their performance lacked that intensity. There was a real lack of quality today from Man Utd, and a real lack of conviction and desire to go and take the game to Arsenal. And Arsenal certainly deserved their draw, at least."
