Guardiola Angered By Barcelona’s Presidential Candidates On Eric Garcia Pursuit

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has criticised some of Barcelona’s presidential candidates for their public pronouncements on Eric Garcia.

Garcia has just six months left on his contract at the Etihad Stadium and could join Barcelona for a nominal fee in the final days of the January transfer window or leave for free at the end of the season.

Victor Font and Toni Freixa, who are contesting Joan Laporta for the Camp Nou presidency, have been talking Eric Garcia this week in the build up to the elections in March.

Font has opined that Garcia will join up at the end of the season while Freixa revealed that he could cross carpets this month and even play for free for the rest of the season, angering Guardiola in the process.

"I don't want to talk anything about this case because the people talk much," Guardiola said, in comments apparently directed towards Freixa and Font, who are standing against his old boss at Camp Nou, Joan Laporta.

"He's our player, the transfer window finishes in a few days.

"We are fully committed with him while he is here because is an exceptional player and guy and that's all."

The 20-year-old Spanish international came through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy before joining Manchester City in the summer of 2017.

City were keen to extend Garcia’s stay at the club last year but he rejected the offer of a new contract.

Injuries and a positive coronavirus test has restricted Garcia to just eight appearances in all competitions for Manchester City this season.
