A much-changed Tottenham were punished by their early profligacy when Fred Onyedinma put the hosts ahead inside the opening 25 minutes but Gareth Bale made sure things were level before halftime.
Wycombe proved to be a hard nut to crack as they held Mourinho’s side until the very end of the game when the Portuguese manager turned to his star-studded bench to avoid extra-time.
Harry Winks put the visitors ahead four minutes before the final whistle and substitute Tanguy Ndombele swiftly struck twice to send Spurs into the next round of the competition.
"If it did go to extra time, it would have been bad for both teams. The players coming on in the second half of the game, it would be difficult to handle us but then we scored that goal to put us through.
"[Tanguy Ndombele] is very creative. He is one of those players that can break the balance. They tried to get him man against man but he can break that - plus on top of that he can score goals for us.
"The attitude from the players from the first minute was excellent, then the players on the bench, they came with the intention of giving something to the team, so overall it was a good squad performance."
