After joining Lille from Angers in 2017 for £9 million, the Ivorian forward has impressed in his spell with the side as his recent performances have attracted interest from many potential suitors.
And Liverpool is alleged to be the next possible destination for Pepe though the Premier League club have debunked the claims.
But Gerard Lopez stressed it is true the last season's Champions League winners have had talks with the player and his representative.
“I know there have been discussions with the player, not with us as a club, Liverpool has players in those positions. And I read that maybe there was players who leave, or not.
“I am not particularly focused on Liverpool. But it is true that there have been discussions with agents.”
Lopez also disclosed that, German giants Bayern Munich also made an attempt to sign the player in the last winter.
“It was last winter, not much has happened on the market yet, Nico is a very special player.”
Pepe in his first season at the Stade Pierre Mauroy scored 14 goals with five assists in thirty-eight Ligue 1 games while he registered 23 goals and twelve assists in forty-one appearances.
The 24-year-old who naturally plays as a right-winger can also operate as a centre-forward or behind the striker, a quality Jurgen Klopp would need to augment his side in the coming season.
