After going four top flight games without a win, Tottenham returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion to move up to third on the table, temporarily at least.
An early incursion by Leeds United into the Tottenham Hotspur penalty area saw Ezgjan Alioski slash a shot into the side-netting in the 4th minute.
Some slack play by the visitors at the back allowed Steven Bergwijn through but the Dutchman was tripped by Alioski in the box, resulting in a penalty. Harry Kane took responsibility and sent Illan Meslier the wrong way to give Spurs the lead in the 29th minute.
Kane turned provider for Son Heung-min two minutes before the break with a sumptuous pass from the right, allowing the South Korean to score his 100th goal for the club in all competitions.
Jose Mourinho’s men did not mess about after the break and swiftly added to their tally in the 50th minute when Toby Alderweireld headed home Son’s corner despite Meslier’s desperate attempts to claw the ball away from goal.
Meslier made up for his earlier error when he denied Bergwijn the chance to extend Tottenham’s lead with a wonderful save in a one-on-one situation in the 61st minute.
Tottenham were reduced to ten men in the 90th minute when Matt Doherty was given a second yellow card for a rash challenge on Pablo Hernandez.
