The Blues suffered a 3-1 defeat against an Arsenal side that had not won in their last eight Premier League games and were four points away from the drop zone.
Chelsea went down to two goals in the first half after a slow start. Firstly, a penalty from Alexendre Lecazette on the 34th minute mark and a stunning free kick from Granit Xhaka on the cusp of halftime.
The visitors conceded again eleven minutes after the break courtesy of Bukayo Saka’s strike despite a much improved second half performance.
Tammy Abraham pulled one back late in the game and Chelsea could have ensured a nervy finish to the game when they had a penalty inside injury-time but Jorginho passed up the chance to make it 3-2.
Speaking to the media after the game, Lampard blasted his players for being ‘lazy’.
"It wasn't good enough. We fought in the second half but in the first half we gave ourselves too much to do. The players who came on added speed energy and intensity.
"I'll take responsibility on the outside but the players also have to take responsibility,” Lampard fumed.
“The message was clear - Arsenal are a dangerous team. When you go out and play 60 or 70 per cent then you're not going to win any games
"I am angry because I want us to win games. It was an opportunity to go second. You get what you deserve."
Chelsea will face in-form Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Monday.
