Arsenal’s misery was compounded by a home humiliation against Guardiola’s men, but the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has urged the Gunners to stick with his compatriot.
Arteta was drafted in to replace Unai Emery after a poor run of form during the beginning of last season. The Spanish coach somewhat steadied the ship and led Arsenal to another FA Cup victory over London rivals Chelsea.
Arteta’s side started this season on a high by beating Liverpool in the Community Shield and winning their opening two Premier League matches against London rivals Fulham and West Ham United.
Things have not been the same as Arsenal currently sit 15th on the Premier League table and are without a win since November 1 when they beat Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Despite the North Londoners’ current predicament, Guardiola believes his counterpart will weather the storm.
"They will do a huge, big mistake if they sack him [Arteta],” he said.
“I’m pretty sure they are going to trust him. I understand for the analysts, analyse the results. But I was with him many years and I know his incredible quality as a humanbeing and especially as a manager, how he is involved in everything. It’s just a question of time and he will do well.
"I’m not on the board. For me they will do a big mistake if they are thinking of changing the manager.
“They gave him the confidence, they won two titles when for a long time ago it didn’t happen at this club. In this pandemic situation, with injury the problems they have and they have played good games.
"But unfortunately these games is our job and it depends on the results. But football changes in one week so quick.
"I can speak about my experience alongside him, one of the most incredible successful teams in English history we had and he was part of this success and it would not be possible without him, and to create something like this you need time like I had in my first season."
