The Germany international’s goalless binge continues as he has not found the back of the net in Chelsea’s last eight games in all competitions.
Werner arrived at Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig in the summer ahead of the 2020/2021 campaign.
Having established himself as one of the deadliest marksmen in Europe in recent seasons, the 24-year old started brightly in England scoring eight goals and provided five assists in his first twelve matches for Chelsea.
The former Stuttgart man has not found the back of the net since he scored against Sheffield United on November 7, and Cole has insisted that Werner needs to go away and work on his finishing and believes Lampard should consider dropping him when other injured players return.
He told Amazon Prime: "I think Werner, when he comes in off that left, he’s very, very dangerous.
"I just think he just needs to brush up on his finishing, but he’s a young striker and he will do that.
"So I’ve got no doubts he’ll be a top player for Chelsea, but there are options now and [Frank Lampard] needs to move it around.
The 39-year-old added: "Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi [are there] to come back in, freshen it up at some point. Take Werner out, bring him back in.
"It’s a marathon to win a title usually, and certainly this year. You’ve got to use your whole squad.
"So Werner maybe come out, bring the other lads back in.
"I think he’s had a good start to his Chelsea career.
