The La Liga champions ended the week on a high after securing two crucial wins – against Borussia Monchengladbach and Atletico Madrid - which might bring their season back on track.
Both Modric and Kroos ran the show in midfield as Real Madrid controlled the match from start to finish to inflict Diego Simeone’s men’s first league defeat of the season.
After piling pressure on the visitors and passing up chances to take the lead in the opening ten minutes, Casemiro put the hosts ahead with a header inside 15 minutes.
Real Madrid got the second goal of the game on the 63rd minute mark when Dani Carvajal’s thunderbolt came off the post and into the net off keeper Jan Oblak for an own goal.
"We broke them down to find an opening, it's true," Zidane said on his game plan after the game.
"We had to do things. It was about switching the play quickly and we found spaces with diagonals."[Modric and Kroos] are f***ing brilliant.
“They're exceptional. "Karim [Benzema] too... And Lucas [Vazquez] is phenomenal, and [Dani] Carvajal, and our captain [Sergio Ramos], [Raphael] Varane... Everyone is very good."
Next up for Real Madrid is a home game against Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday.
