Guardiola has been in the Premier League since the beginning of the 2015/2016 season and has dominated the English landscape winning every domestic trophy.
The Spanish tactician’s tenure has been questioned by many following a chronic failure to bring the most coveted Champions League trophy to Etihad.
Many have opined that this would have been Guardiola’s last season in England as his contract was due to end after the 2020/2021 season but the 49-year-old has landed a new two-year extension.
In an interview with the media ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s home game against Manchester City, Mourinho has admitted he is happy for his counterpart.
“The only thing for sure is that no one put a gun to Pep’s head to sign the contract," said the former Chelsea and Manchester United head coach.
"If he does that it is because he is happy to do it. He has had conversations with the club’s powerful people.
"He knows what he will have ahead of him for the future. He has motivation. He loves it there so if he does that it’s because he is happy to do it so I am happy for him.”
Mourinho revealed that Harry Winks and Erik Lamela are his side's only injury concerns for the game against the Citizens.
"Training is at 15:00 and the players will report after 13:30. We are waiting for a couple of decisions," said Mourinho.
"Harry Winks arrived with a little problem. Erik Lamela is still on the last period of recovery. Apart from that, no problems."
