Williams has established himself as of one the promising talents in England after making his senior debut at Old Trafford last season, where he made over 30 appearances in the famous royal red jersey.
Having graduated from the Manchester United academy, the Englishman was said to be a striker before he switched to left-back.
The 20-year-old admitted he found it harder to compete with Greenwood, who is now an England international and Garner, who is currently on loan to Championship side Watford.
Williams told United’s official website: “I wasn’t really happy when I went to The Cliff because I was used to being in school and being the best player, but when I went there I wasn’t one of the best players really! I was down there in the bottom group.”
“Mason’s always been there [as one of the best players]. James Garner, he was up there as well. There are a few players who are not here as well now.”
“I was jealous at the time because they were skillful and everything. I think that’s why I went further back, because I was a striker but now I’m a defender.”
Williams is currently enduring a tough time at Old Trafford as he is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League and has been pushed down the perking order following arrival of Alex Telles from FC Porto in the summer.
