Mourinho Praises West Ham’s Belief After Dramatic 3-3 Draw Against Spurs

Jose Mourinho was livid as his side threw away a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 against London rivals West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday, but the Portuguese coach has hailed the visitors’ second half display.

A fulminating start to the London Derby saw Mourinho’s men hit three past West Ham United inside the opening 16 minutes thanks Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane’s double.

David Moyes’ men were ripped to shreds every time the hosts attacked early on, and Spurs could have been out of sight before the break if not for their own profligacy.

West Ham improved after the break but were kept at bay for vast majority of the second half before defender Fabian Balbuena headed home an Aaron Cresswell free-kick on the 82nd minute mark.

The Hammers swiftly got their second three minutes later when Colombia defender Davinson Sanchez headed beyond his own goalkeeper from Vladimir Coufal's cross.

West Ham earned a point deep inside injury-time after a stunning drive from substitute Manuel Lanzini rattled in off the crossbar.

Mourinho was speaking to the media after game and he admitted that there was an element of a deserved luck for the East Londoners but was quick to praise West Ham’s display.

“Giving credit to West Ham and try not to analyse our responsibilities on this result. It is easy for me to praise West Ham. They were losing 3-0 for the majority of the game,” the former Manchester United manager told Sky Sports.

“The game was controlled, they didn't have chances and then late in the game, they score and increased their belief. They were lucky but maybe they deserved that luck. We were unlucky but maybe we deserved that.

“Football. Of course I have to analyse the second half and have to do it internally, but for you I prefer to say football happened, and praise West Ham's belief.

'It is not easy to be losing 3-0 and be dominated, to keep the belief. I knew they are a different team to last season, but to lose an advantage of three goals is a big punishment and eventually deserved.”
