Gomez is gradually garnering much praise from the football world for being one of the fulcrums of Atalanta’s ruthless attack.
Having joined La Dea from the dissolved Ukrainian side Metalist Kharkiv in 2014, Gomez has gradually elbowed his away towards the pinnacle of European football.
The 32-year-old scored eight goals and provided 18 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions as Gasperini’s men enjoyed a good 2019/2020 season where the club made its debut in the Champions League.
Having started this campaign with four goals and two assists in just three Serie A games, the former Catania and San Lorenzo man’s spectacular form has forced Gasperini to shower praise on him.
“Papu is a great champion, he has reached an incredible value,” the former Genoa boss said at a press conference ahead of Atalanta’s visit to San Paolo to face Napoli. “He could play in any team in Europe.
“He could play for Inter or Juve too. This year he can also play in the middle and give us a hand even in defence.
“But he’s best when he attacks.”
Atalanta will be looking to maintain their perfect start to the domestic season against Gennaro Gattuso’s men.
