Kaka Insists Milan Are On The Right Path

Brazil icon Kaka believes AC Milan are on the right path under head coach Stefano Pioli.

The Rossoneri are enjoying a purple patch since the turn of the year and have not tasted defeat in Serie A since a 2-1 loss at home against Genoa in early March; a run of 15 league matches.

AC Milan have started the 2020/2021 season on a high as they have won their first three league games without conceding a goal.

Kaka, who won the Serie A and Champions League during his time at the San Siro, has commended the current state of affairs of the Milanese club and compared his first stint at the club to this era.

“They have a mix of leaders and youngsters. When I arrived, I was young and I found a structure that helped me,” the 2002 World Cup winner told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It’s important to continue. It seems to me that the Elliott fund has found the right path, a line the CEO [Ivan] Gazidis maintains.”

“The work of [director Paolo] Maldini and that of [former director Zvonimir] Boban was important.

“We think of the German models, the national team from 2014. I like the renewal of Milan but learning from the veterans is fundamental.

“Without those I met at Milanello, I wouldn’t have become what I was. Young people are not enough.

“Let’s think of the Arsenal model. It’s nice, but they haven’t won in recent years. We need to be a little more concrete. For me it works better: leaders and young players for a future with quality.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to Ac Milan in January after his adventure in the Major League Soccer with LA Galaxy came to an end.

Kaka has praised the impact of the former Sweden international, insisting he is one of the reasons Pioli’s men are flying.

“He raises everyone’s level. He motivates and has quality,” he added. “It helps the youngsters a lot, makes the group grow.

“Teaches others to stay at a high level and takes away the pressure. The championship will be long and hard, I bet that he will make a difference until the end.”

Serie A is known for having many old players in the League and the former Brazil international thinks it’s ‘beautiful’.

“Italian football, more than others, cared about the history of the champions,” he said. “They don’t leave them on the pitch for past merits, but because they had faith in them.

“It allowed them to extend their careers, with respect. I find it beautiful. It’s an advantage of your system: the most experienced do not stay over the winter, but they transmit concrete values to the youngest.

“But Italian football has amazing young players. [Alessandro] Bastoni, [Sandro] Tonali, just to name two names in the Derby.

“But I repeat, we need a mix, even if the green football is beautiful.”
