Ronaldo has etched his name as one of the best footballers of his generation and is showing no signs of taking his foot off the pedal even at the age of 35.
Breaking and setting new records on daily routine has been the known hallmark of the Juventus superstar.
Ronaldo is the current all-time record goalscorer for the Portugal national team and the second overall men's international goalscorer in history having scored 101 goals in 166 appearances, trailing only all-time record goalscorer Ali Daei by 8 goals, and next on his plate is to beat the Iran icon’s record.
The Manchester United and Real Madrid legend is also craving for a record sixth Champions League trophy and a sixth Ballon d’Or, which is all achievable this season.
Ahead of Portugal’s crunch encounter against France in the Nations League, Santos posited that Ronaldo is hungry for more records and hailed his compatriot’s industry.
“For Cristiano Ronaldo, it is always important to reach new records, as well as to be at the highest level and to be the best,” said Santos in a press conference as quoted on Eurosport.
“It feeds him, as I always said and I will keep saying whenever people ask me about the reason for Cristiano’s great form and if he can play until his 40’s…
“I’ve said it many times, when we met he was 17 years old, and I was impressed with his hunger to reach records, to win games, to score more goals and so on.
“And it hasn’t changed during all these years. I believe it’s crucial for him.
The Portuguese coach added on Ronaldo: “I recently said in an interview I’m sure that the day he misses this adrenaline or hunger to do more things, to reach records, and overcome himself, he will let us know.
“At the moment, he wants more, more, and more.
“He wants to overcome himself. That’s for sure.”
