Calvert-Lewin Revels In Goalscoring England Debut

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has expressed delight after marking his England debut with a goal against Wales at an empty Wembley stadium on Thursday.

The Everton striker started upfront and opened the scores in the 26th minute as second half goals from Conor Coady and Danny Ings condemned Ryan Giggs’ men, who were missing star players Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, to a 3-0 defeat.

Calvert-Lewin’s latest strike continued his bright start to the 2020/2021 season which has seen him score 10 goals in just seven appearances for club and country.

"Obviously it's a shame there are no fans here to celebrate and obviously my family aren't here to celebrate so it's bittersweet in that sense but to score on debut obviously it's the stuff of dreams," Calvert-Lewin told ITV.

"I've worked very hard to get here, it's felt like a very long road but I'm very, very pleased to be here and get the opportunity to score on debut."

The 23-year-old also paid tribute to Jack Grealish, who capped an impressive display by laying on the assist for Calvert-Lewin’s goal.

"He's a top player, I've seen it already," the Premier League’s joint top scorer added. "It's the first time I've played with him to see him up close and personal he's got bags of ability.

"I knew if he got in that position it was for me to hold my position and he'd get the cross in."
