Pogba played the full 90 minutes in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Southampton on Saturday but was seen hobbling towards the end of the game and has now withdrawn from the French squad for EURO 2020 qualifying matches against Albania and Andorra on September 7 and 10.
Guendouzi has impressed so far for Arsenal this season, playing in all four Premier League games and produced a man-of-the-match performance in the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday.
The 20-year-old notched the assist for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's goal as the Gunners came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at the Emirates Stadium.
Guendouzi has played for France’s youth sides and was part of the U-21 squad that competed in the U-21 European Championships over the summer.
A statement on the French national team’s twitter handle read: “Injured at the ankle, Paul Pogba is replaced by Matteo Guendouzi for matches against Albania and Andorra on 7 and 10 September at the Stade de France. Good recovery Paul.”
Pogba is the latest high profile absentee in France manager Didier Deschamp’s squad after fitness issues ruled out the likes of Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte, PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele of Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder N’golo Kante.
France, who are the reigning world champions, top Group H with nine points from four games played.
