Frank De Boer Replaces Koeman As Netherlands Manager

Frank De Boer has been named as the new manager of the Netherlands national team following the departure of Ronald Koeman to Barcelona.

Koeman left his post as manager of Oranje despite having a contract that would have run until after the rescheduled 2020 European Championship.

Koeman’s post has now been taken over by De Boer, who has signed a two-year contract expected to run until after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

De Boer was last in charge of Atalanta United in the Major League Soccer but left his post in July.

The 50-year-old, who is the Netherlands’ third most capped player with 112 appearances to his name, was assistant manager to Bert Van Marwijk when the Dutch national team made the final of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, losing to Spain.

De Boer has also taken charge of Ajax Amsterdam in the past, winning four Eredivisie titles in a six-year stint between 2010 and 2016.

De Boer had ill-fated spells at Inter Milan and Crystal Palace after leaving Ajax as he lasted just 85 days in charge of the Italian giants and his time with the Premier League outfit lasted just four games into the 2017/2018 season.

The former Rangers and Barcelona midfielder’s first game in charge of Netherlands will be in a friendly game against Mexico on October 7 before Nations League matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Italy on October 11 and 14 respectively.
