Chelsea have been busy in this summer’s transfer window, having welcomed five key players like Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
The Blues are said to be mulling over the possibility of signing a new goalkeeper to battle it out with first-choice stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who had a poor 2019/2020 season.
Anelka was impressed with Frank Lampard’s first season as a Chelsea manager. The English coach had to work with a limited squad due to the transfer embargo placed on the English side.
The former France international believes the West Londoners’ new signings can help Chelsea fight for the league title.
“I think they have a great chance to win the title. It depends on what Liverpool and Manchester City will do as well,” Anelka, who played for Chelsea between 2008 and 2012, told Stadium Astro.
“But he’s [Lampard] got the quality to finish fourth in the league last season and, with the signings, he’s got the quality to win it.
“It depends after in terms of the experience of the players whether they are strong enough to race until the end but the quality is in Chelsea as well.
“So I believe first, second or third. We will see a great Chelsea at the end.”
Lampard’s men will kickoff their campaign with a game against Brighton at the AMEX stadium.
