Giroud believes the acquisition of the Germany international does not threaten his future at Stamford Bridge and insists he can offer a different quality upfront for Frank Lampard.
Giroud was heavily linked with a move away from West London at the start of the year, having played as third choice striker to Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi for much of the 2019-20 campaign.
But a reported move to either Inter Milan or Lazio in the January transfer window could not materialize.
The 33-year-old became Frank Lampard‘s potent hitman during the dying embers of the season, helping Chelsea to secure a top four finish in the Premier League and reaching the FA Cup final albeit losing to Arsenal.
Giroud’s future at Stamford Bridge is once again up in the air since the arrival of Werner from RB Leipzig as he now has to compete with the German and Abraham to be the focal point of Chelsea’s attack.
The France international is confident about retaining his place in the starting lineup.
“I am confident for the coming year which will be good and busy at Chelsea. In every big club, there is competition. It motivates me. I still want to fight for my place,” Giroud told beIN SPORTS.
“I am not naive. The club recruited Timo Werner to play, but we don’t have the same profile. If it had been a striker with the same profile, I would have been more worried."
