Rakitic joined Barcelona from the Andalusian club before the beginning of the 2014/2015 season.
The former Basel and Schalke 04 man quickly became one of the Catalans’ lynchpins, helping them to a second treble in the club’s history in his first season.
The 32-year-old was close to leaving Barcelona last summer, but a reported move to either Juventus or Paris Saint-Germain could not materialize.
Rakitic played 310 games, scored 36 goals, provided 40 assists and won 13 trophies which includes four La Liga titles and one Champions League during his time at Camp Nou.
The midfielder took to his Twitter account to bid an emotional farewell to the Blaugrana.
“I arrived at FC Barcelona 6 years ago,” wrote Rakitic.
“Today, I am turning a wonderful page in my career. It has been an honor to wear this jersey. I would like to thank everyone without exception. My family, my teammates, the coaches, the staff, the club employees and the fans. See you soon.”
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu also thanked Rakitic for his ‘commitment and dedication’ and insists the Camp Nou will always be his home.
“Thank you, Ivan Rakitic,” wrote Bartomeu.
“For your commitment and dedication. You’ve been a fundamental part of the successes of the last several years, and a example of professionalism. You will always have a home in Barcelona and at Barca."
