The former Sweden striker joined AC Milan in January on an initial six-month contract with an option to extend for another year.
Ibrahimovic’s return to San Siro coincided with AC Milan’s resurgence as they mounted a 13-game unbeaten run across all competitions and climbed up the Serie A table to finish sixth.
The 38-year-old scored eleven goals and provided five assists in 20 games in all competitions for the Rossoneri.
His remarkable contribution has forced the club to push ahead with an offer for a new deal despite the fact that the former Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United man will turn 39 next season.
Milan took to their club website to officially announce Ibrahimovic’s new deal.
“AC Milan is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement for the contract renewal of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, extending the partnership with the Rossoneri Club until 30 June 2021,” the club said in a statement.
Fresh from signing a new deal, Ibrahimovic admitted that Milan is his home and insists the Milanese club have to get back to winning trophies.
“I have always felt part of Milan, even when I played with other teams,” Ibrahimovic told Milan TV.
“They always treated me well from day one.”
“When I first arrived at Milan, I smiled. Something I have never done before in my job. I feel at home and I don’t feel like I have been away.”
“I came here to bring Milan back to their level, where they deserve to be. I do everything to achieve the goals I set,” he added.
“We have to work and sacrifice, but the last six months we have shown we have what it takes to reach certain goals.
“We must not forget, however, that we have not won anything. In my head, the goal is always to win something. This season we have to win.”
