Sarr became a free agent this summer when his contract ended at Ligue 1 side Nice.
The Frenchman will spend the 2020-21 season out on loan to “gain valuable game time” in order to establish himself in the Chelsea first team.
Having played over 100 league games for Les Aiglons in four years, Sarr was widely linked with clubs like Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke, and unnamed Serie A clubs, but the 21-year-old opted to join the Premier League side.
Moments after Chelsea confirmed the signing of the France U21 defender, the club’s director Marina Granovskaia insisted that the Blues could not pass up the chance to sign a ‘tremendous’ prospect like Sarr.
“The opportunity to sign Malang was one we could not miss. He is a tremendous prospect and we will be monitoring him closely during his loan period, hoping he will soon be back at Chelsea,” she told the club’s official website.
“We are very happy to welcome him to the club today.”
He became Chelsea’s latest addition of the summer after Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Xavier Mbuyamba and Ben Chilwell, with the West Londoners hoping to add the likes of Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva in the coming days.
Chelsea are also on the lookout for a new goalkeeper with the likes of Burnley’s Nick Pope, Andre Onana and Lille’s Mike Maignan all said to be linked with the club.
