34 of those goals came in Bundesliga and he was two goals away from equaling Cristiano Ronaldo’s most goals(17) scored in a single Champions League season
The Poland international ended the season being the top scorer in the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and the UEFA Champions League.
Lewandowski was also one of Hans-Dieter Flick’s lynchpins that helped the Bavarian giants to their second treble in the club’s history.
Matthaus, who won the FIFA World Player of the Year in 1991, believes Lewandowski has usurped Lionel Messi and Juventus forward Ronaldo as the current best footballer in the world .
