Paris Police Arrest 148 Fans After PSG Defeat In Champions League Final

Paris police have arrested 148 people as Paris Saint-Germain fans clashed with officers and smashed cars and store windows hours after the Ligue 1 giants lost 1-0 against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

The perpetrators were charged for ‘volence or throwing of projectiles’ and over 400 people were issued with a penalty for failing to wear a mask in accordance with measures to help tackle the Coronavirus pandemic.

France Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin took to his twitter account on Monday to confirm that 16 police officers were injured in the Sunday night skirmishes, and the securities did not have estimates on injuries among the fans. Riot police used tear gas to disperse fans gathered outside the club’s stadium.

5,000 fans were allowed inside the Parc des Princes as Paris Saint Germain beamed the match on two giant screens.

The Parisians’ hope of joining Olympique Marseille as the only French club to hoist Europe’s premier club competition were dented by Hans-Dieter Flick’s men as Kingsley Coman’s second half header helped the Bundesliga champions to their sixth Champions League trophy.

Thomas Tuchel’s men loss was met with huge celebrations in Marseille, where fans cheered and let off flares and fireworks.
