Ljungberg returned to the club in 2018, first working with Arsenal’s U15 and U23 sides and then acting as interim boss following the departure of Unai Emery in November.
The former Sweden international stayed on the coaching staff after the appointment of Arteta.
Ljungberg enjoyed a special relationship with a number of Arsenal academy players, including Saka, who says he is ‘grateful’ to have worked with the former Chicago Fire and West Ham United midfielder during his time at the Emirates.
Reacting to Ljungberg’s departure, 18-year-old Saka hailed the Swede’s impact on the team and insists he has learnt a lot from him.
‘Freddie has given us all so much valuable advice and support. He’s a fantastic coach and someone we all look up to.’
‘I’m just so grateful that I’ve been able to work alongside and learn directly from someone like him at this early part of my career.’
During his playing days, Ljungberg made 326 appearances for Arsenal and was part of the Premier League-winning Invincibles side of 2003-04.
Arteta also echoed what Saka said and insists he respects the work of Ljunberg.
The Spanish coach said: “Freddie has been a really important member of my team since my arrival. He did a great job picking the team up when Unai left and we all have 100 per cent respect for him as a man and a coach.”
