David Silva Signs For Real Sociedad After Manchester City Exit

David Silva has joined Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad on a two-year contract after leaving Manchester City.

Silva’s departure from the blue half of Manchester after a ten-year association was confirmed on Monday and he heads to Spain as a free agent.

The 34-year-old joined Manchester City in the summer of 2010 from Spanish La Liga side Valencia and cemented his place as a true Premier League great.

Silva, whose final game for Manchester City came in the 3-1 loss to Olympique Lyon in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals last Saturday, made 436 appearances in total for the club, winning four Premier League titles, four FA Cups and five League Cups.

Manchester City have announced plans to erect a statue outside the Etihad Stadium in honour of Silva.

Lazio were the frontrunners for Silva’s signature but Sociedad, who finished sixth in the Spanish La Liga last season, have stolen a march on the Italians, offering the former Spain international a deal until the summer of 2022.

"Real Sociedad has reached an agreement with David Silva for the Canarian footballer to play for the Txuri Urdin team for the next two seasons, until June 30, 2022," read a statement on the club's website.

"The player, who arrives on a free transfer after leaving Manchester City, will in the near future be incorporated into pre-season with the first team."

Silva will don his favourite number 21 jersey at the Anoeta for the upcoming campaign.

Silva won 125 caps for Spain and was an integral part of their squads that won the European Championships in 2008 and 2012, as well as the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
