The Catalans’ 2019/2020 season came to an end in a disappointing fashion in Lisbon, as they lost a match by six-goals for the first time since April 1951, when they were beaten 6-0 by local rivals Espanyol in a league match.
Barcelona have ended a season without a trophy for the first time since the 2013-2014 season under Argentine manager Gerardo Martino.
Pique has admitted that the defeat against the German champions is unacceptable for a club of Barcelona’s level and insists the Blaugrana need to start afresh in order to be great again.
"I'm in pain. We all are. We can't compete like that. It's very, very tough to take. Nothing more is worth saying. The club needs changes. Not just the players, I don't want to point out anyone,” the Spain defender told Movistar.
"But football is a sport where change is constantly required. We must change the dynamic we are on because I believe we have just hit bottom.”
