The Premier League side were left to rue a missed penalty from Raul Jimenez in the first half as they were knocked out of the Europa League by La Liga side Sevilla, thanks to Lucas Ocampos’ late knockout blow.
The Portuguese coach admitted he is proud of his side’s achievements given the size of their squad, but insists they will need to bring in new faces in order to remain competitive in the upcoming season.
The defeat against the Spaniards brought an end to the Premier League outfit’s season that lasted 383 days and 59 games.
Wolves used just 21 players in the just ended Premier League season - fewer than any other team - while as many as eight players played in at least 50 games in all competitions.
"It's a small squad and we must be really proud, but now we need to make good decisions so we do not make mistakes like we did before. We need more players that can help us," Santo said after the game.
"We have frustration, in the last minutes it is something that has happened to us many times. We required focus on a set piece. I am proud of the boys, we played a tough team and we had moments, small details, small margins.
"It's a short break, you cannot stop and start again. We now have to prepare well for this period, we have to rest. This is the best way and we will look at how we did things."
