The Bavarian giants scored twice in the opening stages of the game but Tammy Abraham pulled one back to give the faintest glimmer of hope for the visitors just before half time.
The hosts curtailed Chelsea’s chances of making a comeback by scoring twice in the second half to finish Lampard’s men off despite the Premier League side’s positive spirit.
Lampard believes Chelsea contributed to their own downfall by committing mistakes against a ruthless Hans-Dieter Flick side and insists he saw positive signs of where he wants Chelsea to go despite not being happy with the Blues’ display.
“They performed alright. Difficult to say after a 4-1 defeat, not happy but when you concede two early we did get back into the game after that,” the former Derby County boss said.
"When you match our Champions League appearances to theirs, I saw lots of good things in the team and also some of the bad we have seen this season.”
