Jesus Incapable Of Being A Long-Term Replacement For Aguero, Says Roy Keane

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane says Gabriel Jesus is incapable of being a long-term replacement for Sergio Aguero at Manchester City.

Aguero, who is City’s all-time goalscorer, is currently sidelined with a knee injury and his spot in the team has been taken by Jesus.

Jesus has scored 18 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s men this season but he has been unable to find the back of the net in any of the five games City have played since the season resumed after the coronavirus pandemic halted the campaign back in March.

He struggled to make much of an impact when Manchester City swept away newly-crowned Premier League champions Liverpool 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday and was taken off after 58 minutes for Riyad Mahrez.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Keane said: 'I don't think he's the answer. He's a good squad player but in terms of replacing Aguero that's a big ask. He's a talented boy but replacing Aguero, not for me.'

Guardiola rates Jesus highly at Manchester City, having signed the Brazilian from Palmeiras in January 2017 for a reported £27m.

The 23-year-old has scored 63 goals in 143 games in total for Manchester City, winning two Premier League titles and an FA Cup during his time at the club.

Jesus has won 39 caps for the Brazilian national team, scoring 18 goals and was part of the squad that won the Copa America on home soil last year.
